Yes, this team is totally dysfunctional, and yeah... Yamazaki is a total lunatic!  Mary's pretty lucky that she got away with that.

In Panel 4, Mary thinks "Isn't that so Billy" because she's wondering why he teamed up with Yamazaki.

And one more note on parenthesis... I use them for then a character thinks to themselves.  For instance, check Panels 4 & 5.
