Well, as I said before, this game isn't very impressive.
Mainly, it's just because there's not much new or special about it. They did
improve on some things, but overall, it's kinda... blah. However, I'm such a
fighting game freak, and I'm SO happy to be able to team up characters like Cammy and
Terry Bogard, that I'm happy. |
Good stuff...
First of all, there are a lot more characters in this version. Athena, Chang, and a
few other characters that shoulda been in the first one, made it into the 2nd one.
Also, a few surprise characters like Rock Howard, Maki, and Eagle showed up. |
Another thing that's been greatly improved from the first
game, is the ending. It's nothing spectacular, but at least they put a little effort
into it, and each character gets to say something. |
Although it hasn't impressed me too much, there are a lot
more 'Grooves'... C, A, P, S, N, and K. And later on, you can earn EX 1 & 2,
which you can customize to your own style. All that should provide for a lotta
different gameplay. |
Overall, the game doesn't seem as cheap and as stressful
as the firs one was. The hidden bosses and Ryuji Yamazaki are maybe the exceptions. |
A lotta little details such as Com vs Com settings, and
"window off" during a pause help to make the game a lot more interesting. |
Bad stuff...
The first impression was of course the cover... and it sucks! It's a bad picture of
Chun Li. Sigh... are they ever gonna stop hyping that lame old character?!
Enough already! |
The 2nd impression was the game intro... and it's the
lamest I've ever seen! It's not all all interesting, and it just looks bad... it's
cheap mix of 3D and 2D. |
The 3rd thing that got my attention was the really
annoying guy who's narrating/announcing for the game. He'll make you mute the game
whenever you play. BTW, I think he might be the guy from Ridge Racer V (if you can
remember that) |
Before, I mentioned how it was good to have more
characters, but there's one in particular that didn't make it, but definitely deserved a
spot... Blue Mary! She's cool, unique, and a fan favorite in KoF. She SHOULD
be in the game! |
And speaking of characters... the Chun Li in this version
is the absolutely ridiculous SF3 Chun Li. I can't stand watching her flop around.
>_< And she's at least a foot taller than Cammy... that makes her what,
about 6'5"?! |
And speaking of speaking of characters... the shotoclones
are still as cheap and unbalanced as ever. But as far as computer controlled
cheapness goes, regular old Yamazaki is the King of Cheap! He's as hard to beat as
Shin Gouki and God Rugal!! He's just blocks and blocks and blocks (the guard crash
is worthless), and then counters perfectly. |
Something that should have been a good thing is actually
bad. In the Options menu, you can set Player 1 and Player 2 to computer control.
I like doing that... maybe I'm a dork! I tried it out, but the computer puts
on such an incredibly boring fight that it makes the option totally worthless. Well,
at least Cammy beat Chun Li... ^_^ |
After playing the game for a while, it became obvious that
the backgrounds are pretty bad. Most people probably don't care much about
backgrounds, but they're important to me. They just aren't as interesting this time
around. Some look kinda awkward, but otherwise, the graphics are great.
However, the graphics in the background look so much better than the characters fighting,
that it looks kinda stupid. The only real interesting thing is looking for people in
the background (like Billy & Lily Kane, and Dudley in London). |
Miscellaneous stuff
Capcom vs SNK 2 is subtitled "Millionaire Fighting 2001"... what hell does that
mean?! |
If you play a C, A, or P groove and get through the game
without continuing, you fight Shin Gouki. He's extremely tough! But, with
Cammy on your team, it's really not that hard to beat him because if you're quick enough,
you can nail him with a Cannon Drill every time he tries to throw a fireball at you (Cammy
goes under the fireball). After beating him, he becomes playable. |
If you play an S, N, or K, groove and get through without
continuing, you fight God Rugal, and he's much tougher than Shin Gouki. His only
weakness seems to be against aerial super moves like Terry Bogard's "Crack Shoe"
and Mai Shiranui's air dive. And of course, if you beat him, you get to play him. |
Sometimes at the bottom of the screen is a little symbol
with "bilingual" written next to it... I wonder what that means? Is all
the English text in the Japanese game? I haven't checked any FAQs on the game...
maybe it's time I do. |
Chang is in the game, and I'm so happy! I don't play
him, but I think he's really fun. And this time he's got Choi Bounge running around
like a little side-kick. He even helps Chang out with some attacks, and it can get a
bit confusing! |
Maki from Final Fight is back after about a decade on the
shelf. She's pretty cool from what I've seen so far, but she's got some strange
moves that'll take a while to get used to, so I haven't played much with her yet. I
think fans will really like her, |
Eagle from the original Street Fighter, which I bet 99% of
you have never seen, is back too! He hasn't been seen in a game since the 1980's!
Anyhow, he's pretty cool, I think people will like him. However, like Maki,
he's got some unorthodox moves that might take some getting used to. |
Rock Howard is cool. I think this will probably be
the first time most of you will see any of the characters from Garou: Mark of the Wolves. |
