Normally, I don't review games until I've played through
them, but this is one game that I just gotta tell you about right now! This is quite
simply the most gigantic and detailed game that I've ever seen (by FAR). I'm
completely stunned. |
Anyhow, if you don't know anything about this game yet,
lemme fill you in real quick. It was originally a PC game, but now it's on the Xbox
(that's not a bad thing). It's a 1st & 3rd person action RPG, where you can go
anywhere on the gigantic island of Morrowind. In fact, it supposedly takes you about
10 hours to walk from the south side of the island all the way up to the north side!
The world is full of dungeons, caves, cities, and more nooks and crannies for you
to explore. The game is SO detailed and complex that I honestly don't believe that
anyone could ever see or do it all. The game is also non-linear, so you can pretty
much go anywhere at any time. |
The game starts out with you being released from a prison
and sent to the island of Morrowind. You find out that the Emperor himself ordered
you to be freed. When you get off the boat, you're asked a series of questions, and
that determines who you are. You can first pick what you look like... race, sex,
hair, & hair. Then you can go about picking a class by either picking 1 of the
21 classes (e.g. Assassin, Battlemage, Warrior, etc.), answering 10 situational questions
whose answers will determine your class, or making your own custom class. From there
you are given some instructions and set loose to do whatever you wanna do. |
My character's name is Leah, and she's a dark elf with red
pigtails. I created a special class called "Operator" which is a mix
between an Agent, Assassin, Rouge, Scout, and Marksman. I actually spent a few days
playing a little bit with all the different character classes so I'd know for sure what I
was getting into. I really didn't wanna get into a complex RPG like this and then
decide that I shoulda been somebody else. |
I only have 2 major complaints. One is that
sometimes the graphics are kinda bad (I'm being picky), but taking into consideration all
the detail in the game, I guess it's understandable. And the other complaint is that
the fighting system is kinda strange. It really takes a while to get used to
fighting hand-to-hand in a first person view. The 3rd person view is even more
awkward. Both those things bothered me a lot more when I first started playing the
game, but now I've gotten pretty much used to it. |
Now lemme explain what I mean about this game being SO big
and detailed. The whole island is completely mapped out... every mountain,
every tree, every rock, every cave, every underwater area, every fortress, every city,
every house, every room, every item, every animal, every monster, every person, etc.
And what's more impressive is that it's not all the same thing over and over...
it's pretty much all unique. Like I said before, you can do almost whatever you
want, whenever you want. But like in real life, everything you do has its
consequences. For example, if you get caught killing or robbing somebody, you'll
have a bounty put on your head, and guards will come after you. |
There is a main quest for you do do, but that's only a
tiny part of it. The gameplay in Morrowind comes mostly from what you decide to do.
For instance, if you join the Assassins Guild, you'll get all sorts of jobs.
You can also find other jobs and quests all over the place. Or, you can
simply go exploring. There's no shortage of things to do... this is by far the most
complex game I've ever seen, and I guarantee that you'll be amazed by it! I got
myself an Xbox because of this game, and I'm not at all disappointed by the game or the
Xbox. The only thing that sucks is I've had to cut out a lot sleep to make time for
this game. |
