Stefan's weekly rant

This is another rant about the Street Fighter comic book. As I write this, the series is only on issue #2, but enough storylines and characters have been introduced to give us a good idea of what's in store for the future. Here's what I'd do with the comic from here...

First of all, I'd have Ken & Ryu die in a car wreck... then I'd have Cammy assassinate Chun Li... then I'd have Akuma (aka Gouki in Japan) catch himself on fire and burn to a crisp. ^_^ No, I'm just kidding. I'd like to get rid of all those tired old characters, but I know I can't do that. But seriously, here's what I'd do...

Of course the first thing I'm concerned with is Cammy! We all know that in the real SF storyline she loses her memory, gets trained by the British secret service, and then comes back as Delta Red Cammy after 3 years. Well, we can't let Cammy disappear for 3 years, but we could condense that whole storyline by having her break free of her mind control and then join Delta Red as one of the good guys. Cammy's cool as one of the bad guys, but we all know that the bad guys lose in the end. Plus, I think Delta Red Cammy has so much more potential and personality. And on top of all that, I think most fans are ready to see Delta Red Cammy finally come back!

The next thing we could do with Cammy is have a rematch with Chun Li! Cammy beating up on Chun Li is always fun to watch, right? Besides that, I'd love to see the Vega (aka Balrog in Japan) vs Cammy storyline expanded. That's got a lot of potential too, and it's been pretty much ignored over the years. And we know that Cammy's also gonna have some problems with Bison (aka Vega in Japan) and the Shadowloo Dolls too. When it comes to rivalries, Cammy's the best! Any or all of those storylines could be tons of fun.

As for Ken, Ryu, and Akuma... sigh... let's just get that lame old storyline over with ASAP! I'm sick of that angle. For Ryu, what I'd like to see (besides him disappearing) would be a rematch with Sagat!! Just hearing about the old fight over and over and over is really lame. I wanna see what the mighty Sagat can do when he's ready to fight. I think a win for Sagat would be cool because it would have so many different effects on Ryu and how his storyline could evolve.

Sakura's in the comic, and although she's kind of annoying, you could do a lot of interesting stuff involving her rivalry with Karin (also very annoying ^_^). I hope she doesn't just run around and worship Ryu...

And how about the Shadowloo Dolls? They got a mention in issue #2, and it would be really fun to do something with all of them. For the most part, they're totally blank characters, but they look SO interesting. Maybe the best thing to do with them is create a background story about how they all got abducted, modified, and then brainwashed like Cammy. And a real ending for the girls would be nice... what happens to them in the end? Maybe one of them could make a comeback.

Another thing I'd do with the comic is give the 'minor' characters like E Honda and Birdie a little more toughness... it's kinda lame watching them just get totally beat on by the 'popular' characters. They may be kinda lame and goofy, but they're strong too... no need to act like anybody can beat 'em up.

A fun storyline would also be something like an SF vacation! No fighting, just silliness like that famous old Capcom picture of the gang at the beach. And another fun thing would be to have an issue of Street Fighter 4-ko manga from different artists.

Anyhow, as screwed up and re-hashed as Street Fighter is, it's still got so much potential, so I'm really looking forward to where this series is going. I wonder if it's gonna go in any of the directions I just mentioned...?
