June 6-8 / Luzern, Switzerland |
We took the train from Stuttgart down to Luzern, and it was a beautiful
ride! 4 hours of staring out of the windows went by in no time at all. Stefan spent
many of his summers in Switzerland, so he wanted to go back to the mountains. And Jenny
only spent 1 afternoon in Switzerland on a high school trip, and most of that time was
dealing with a broken down bus. Although Luzern isn't quite in the mountains, it's
right on the edge. It's a beautiful city with a great view of the Alps. |

Here's one of the views we had on the train ride from Stuttgart to Luzern.

This was the view from our hotel right on the lake! Unfortunately, we only had
this view on the morning we left. Downtown Luzern was about a 10 minute
walk along the lake. |
Another view from our hotel. It was chateau/restaurant with 2 rooms reserved
for family and friends of the people who lived in this little gated community. |
This is where we had breakfast every morning in Luzern! 2 cooks came in
to make a very special feast just for us. The special treatment was great, but
we both felt a bit awkward because we're not used to being treated like royalty.
After those breakfasts, we were stuffed until dinner. |
Here's part of downtown Luzern. All the white spots in the water are swans. |
Some of the beautifully decorated buildings in the oldest part of Luzern.

There are 2 famous wooden bridges crossing the lake in Luzern, and one of them
has about 2 dozen pictures featuring various scenes of death.

Unfortunately, the language and font on these paintings are very old, so Stefan
could barely get anything from them. The pictures were morbidly fascinating.

Exactly 1 year ago, same day, same time, Jenny and Stefan were on a boat in
Forest Park when he asked her to marry him. To celebrate, we took a tour
on one of the boats that ferries around the lake. |
Here's a view from the boat. As you can see, the weather was not on our side.
It was gloomy, but at least it didn't rain. |
This is one of the little towns on the lake. We missed the train up the mountain,
so we walked around town and investigated the waterfall you see at the end of
the street. The mountain here rises over 1 mile, but the clouds are covering
the view. |
Moo! One of the cows we saw while taking the train up the mountain. Most of
Switzerland is too steep to do anything with the land, so people raise cows. They
all have big bells around their necks, and that ringing sound you almost always
hear on the mountains is one of Stefan's favorite things about Switzerland. |
Here we are at the top of the mountain. If it were clear, it's supposed to be a
spectacular view of the Alps. Oh well, it was an interesting experience and
we managed to have a good time nonetheless. |
Here we are on top of the mountain... moments before we missed the train
back down. We had to wait an hour for the next train. It was completely
abandoned, and we couldn't see beyond 15 feet, so we practiced our tango
in the clouds. PS - Jenny's wearing sunglasses in the thick fog! |
Jenny being Jenny again. This was just some random goofy face we saw on one
of the buildings in town. |
And that's it for the
Luzern, Switzerland portion of the honeymoon.... next stop Salzburg,
Austria! |
