June 14-16 / Freising, Germany |
Freising is a little town in Germany that plays a huge role in
the Heissinger family. Heinrich Heissinger attended college in Freising, and that's where
he met Stefan's mother, Erna Janker. 28 years later, Stefan's high school German class
happened to have an exchange program with the school in Freising. 17 years after that,
Stefan's classmates from that trip re-united... and that's when Stefan met Jenny, a girl
who worked with the husband of one of those classmates! 3 years later, Stefan and Jenny
visited Freising on their honeymoon. |

Somewhere in Freising. Unfortunately, we didn't have too much time to wander the
city, and we couldn't get near the Dom Gymnasium where we went to high school. |
A view of Weienstephan from the Dom Berg. The Dom Berg is where we went
to high school with our high school trip, and Weienstephan is where Stefan's
father attended college. Click here to enlarge this picture!

Munchen (aka Munich) is like Germany's New
York, London, Tokyo, etc.
It's a huge city that we barely scratched the surface of because we only had
1 afternoon, and it was drizzling almost all day. Nevertheless, we saw some
interesting things...

The heart of Munchen, the Marienplatz. This is the City Hall with the world
famous Glockenspiel. At the top of every hour, thousands of people gather
in the plaza below to watch the show... |
This is the Glockenspiel, located halfway up the tower on the City Hall. The
figures are life-sized! The King and Queen at the top watch jousting knights,
dancers, musicians, jesters, and others put on a 10 minute show. |
Jenny and Stefan in front of the City Hall in Munchen. |
The famous old ladies with orange and red hair. The third one, old purple-haired
lady is not shown here. Germans have always loved to dye their hair like this, and
these ladies are two prime examples. |
Jenny and I were lost in Munchen, so we sat on a bench to figure things out. As
we sat there, a guy in a full wetsuit and a surfboard walked by and we both said
"Huh?!" |
A few minutes later we got off the bench and saw this scene. Water coming out
from under the city creates a nice wave where about 6 surfers were taking
turns... right in the middle of the city! |
And that's it
for Freising, Germany... and the honeymoon. We had a wonderful time!!
